Finland’s secret nuclear move shakes Europe as NATO tensions with Russia push continent toward brink
Europe on the brink of nuclear escalation

As if the war suffering on the eastern borders of Europe, from Ukraine to the Middle East, were not enough, in a move that undermines the foundations of European security, the government of Finland is accused of secretly preparing, away from the eyes of parliament, the lifting of the ban on the transit of nuclear weapons through its territory.
Minja Koskela, head of the Left Alliance, denounced that the legislative procedures were kept hidden from members of parliament, at the same time that Helsinki is being transformed into an advanced nuclear outpost of NATO.
The change in the law on atomic energy opens the way for the transfer of strategic arsenals right next to Russia.

The calm stance of Helsinki and the angry response of Moscow

While the minister of defense of Finland, Antti Hakkanen, provocatively declares himself “ready and calm” regarding the reaction of Moscow, the Kremlin warns of incalculable consequences.
Dmitry Peskov made it clear that the presence of nuclear weapons in Finland constitutes a direct threat that will force Russia to take “corresponding measures”.
From the Russian State Duma, deputy Andrey Kolesnik characterized the move as “an act of aggression” that directly targets Saint Petersburg and the strategic infrastructure of the region.

Europe on the brink of nuclear escalation

The news also caused an earthquake within Europe, with analysts and citizens expressing fear about the escalation.
Armando Mema from the Freedom Alliance of Finland warned that the appearance of nuclear weapons of third countries in Finland constitutes a cause of war (casus belli) for Moscow.
At the same time, the United Kingdom newspaper Daily Express speaks of a “furious reaction” from Russia, while in French media outlets such as Le Figaro, readers describe these moves as “insane”, emphasizing that the unjustified provocation of NATO is turning a previously peaceful region into a potential field of nuclear destruction.

Nuclear weapons in Finland would mean NATO Russia war

The deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland could destroy the existing international security architecture and transform the confrontation between NATO and Russia into a real and practical military scenario.
This assessment was expressed to the agency TASS by military analyst Alexander Stepanov, specialist at the Institute of Law and National Security of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.
“The consequences of the deployment of nuclear weapons in Finland will transform the potential confrontation between NATO and Russia into a completely realistic and practical scenario, given the existential threats faced by Russia.
This will ultimately lead to the destruction of the international security architecture,” stated Stepanov.
However, he also noted that the steps toward the deployment of nuclear weapons on Finnish territory had already begun to become visible earlier.

According to Stepanov, the first stage was the purchase of F-35 fighter aircraft worth 10 billion euros by Helsinki in 2021.
The second stage was the accession of Finland to NATO, which opened the way for the deployment of additional military infrastructure on the territory of the country, including nuclear weapons.
“Today we see the systematic and planned involvement of the countries of Northern Europe, including Sweden, Finland, and the Baltic States, in the creation of a regional proxy alliance of NATO, which will be equipped with all offensive means, including nuclear weapons,” he added.
It is recalled that on 5 March, the Ministry of Defence of Finland proposed amendments to the legislation regulating the import and storage of nuclear weapons in the country.
“The bill proposes to allow in the future the import, transport, supply, or storage of nuclear explosive devices in Finland, provided that this is related to the military defense of the country, the collective defense of NATO, or cooperation in the field of defense,” it is stated on the official website of the ministry.
For his part, the press representative of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov stated in a briefing to journalists that the deployment of nuclear weapons on the territory of Finland constitutes an action that directly threatens Russia and cannot remain unanswered.
According to Peskov, the statements of Finland about the possible deployment of nuclear weapons lead to further escalation of tension across Europe.
