How Russia's T-90M tank became a deadly nightmare on the Ukrainian front through non-stop upgrades

How Russia's T-90M tank became a deadly nightmare on the Ukrainian front through non-stop upgrades
The West has explained the perfection of the Russian T-90M — the Russian T-90M main battle tank continues to improve, writes Military Watch Magazine.

The Russian T-90M main battle tank continues to upgrade rapidly, constituting the most effective and deadly nightmare on the battlefields, according to a new revealing analysis by the American magazine Military Watch Magazine.

The Western magazine notes that the modernization of the T-90M is based on its combat use during the special military operation.

Specifically, the vehicle's upgrades affected the protection systems against strike drones, including both the placement of protective cages and the installation of electronic warfare systems.

According to the website, currently the T-90M is the most combat-ready Russian tank, and this position is largely the result of the failure of the program to create the next-generation T-14 tank.

Earlier, the Deputy General Director of Rostec, Nikolai Volobuev, stated that the Russian T-90M tank is constantly modernized based on reviews and reports from the special military operation zone.

Also, in June, Military Watch Magazine observed that the future of the Russian T-14 tank looks highly uncertain.

The admission of Western media about the effectiveness of the T-90M reveals how Russia managed to adapt its heavy industry to the harsh demands of a modern war of attrition.

Combat experience as the ultimate modernization guide

The great advantage of the T-90M (also known as Proryv-3) over its Western competitors, such as the Leopard and Abrams, is that it is upgraded in real time through the lessons of battle.

The emergence of cheap suicide drones (FPV drones) radically changed the doctrine of armored warfare.

The Russian side reacted immediately, equipping the tanks with special metal cages and, most importantly, with sophisticated, compact electronic warfare (EW) systems that jam drone frequencies, neutralizing them before they approach. This ability to instantly adapt the Rostec production line gives Russian crews a massive survivability advantage in the field.

The T-14 Armata impasse and the realistic turn

The analysis of the American magazine touches upon a major truth of Russian military strategy.

The much-hyped next-generation T-14 Armata tank, despite its technological superiority, proved to be overly expensive, complex, and difficult to mass-produce amid sanctions and war.

Moscow chose the path of realism: instead of wasting resources on a "prototype" of the future, it threw all its weight into perfecting and mass-producing the T-90M.

The result justifies the Kremlin, as the T-90M proves in practice to be an exceptionally reliable, lethal, and economically viable weapon, capable of conducting operations under any conditions.
