Former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras may not have yet decided on the timing of his party's official unveiling, but according to BN information, he has already "locked in" a hall for the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in September to present his program and economic positions. This development places the final piece of the puzzle regarding Tsipras's intentions toward Mitsotakis and the former premier's blueprints for the center-left landscape.
Pushing the button
What remains in suspense is no longer if Alexis Tsipras will form a party, but when he will announce it. Since the Prime Minister has already ruled out summer elections and leaves minimal probability for October, there is no reason for the former premier to rush. Currently, he holds two competing recommendations. One suggests an announcement within May, while the second advises pushing it back a month. This delay would allow the government's attrition and the internal tremors within PASOK to continue, while also allowing initial reactions to the founding of the Karystianou party—reportedly set for May 21—to be absorbed. This does not mean, of course, that preparations for the Tsipras party have slowed down; he continues to intervene via social media posts almost daily.
Lists and programs
The former Prime Minister's two offices are working intensively to finalize the backbone of both the policy program and the list of candidates for the ballots. They are also selecting the figures who will undergo "rehearsals" to be ready for television appearances. Regarding the ideological compass, the initial goal is to gather the "old SYRIZA" base, which is why a Leftist focus is prominent in his rhetoric and texts. Tsipras estimates that if he succeeds, he will have a strong starting base of approximately 17%, the figure from the last elections. Such a move is expected to completely de-mobilize Nikos Androulakis and pressure him on multiple levels.
A manifesto for the "warm-up"
In his May Day Manifesto, Tsipras emphasized that the primary goal of the text remains the collective renewal of political discourse and the formation of a coherent framework of principles. This framework aims to defend common interests and establish a credible alternative to the dominance of neoliberalism and the far-right. As he concluded, this represents a new value-based starting point with long-term perspective and duration.
The messages
The fact that he chose to preface the publication of the text with an emphasis on a "convincing alternative" proposal already raises the bar for the next electoral contest, in which he has stated he will be present. At the same time, the "Manifesto" contains multiple messages addressed to diverse audiences.
Alignment
The former Prime Minister appears to be attempting his political comeback through the logic of aligning the three main currents of the modern Left to form a unified faction. However, in practice, this direction meets resistance from PASOK—which currently ranks second in polls—as well as from SYRIZA PS and the New Left. Meanwhile, the proposal for an alternative to ND serves as a call to individuals and social forces. Alexis Tsipras is thus shaping the conditions for a broader front.
The "christening" and the name
As noted in the "Manifesto," the creation of a new progressive political space requires a new synthesis: linking the critical tradition of radical Left with the governing experience of Social Democracy and the integration of ecological thought. Following this initial phase, the plan will expand toward the Center. The name of the new political entity is in its final stages; sources suggest it will reflect the characteristics Tsipras has described over the past year, emphasizing a new "national compass" and a "governing" Left.
At the Rematia Theater
Within this context, the first event in Attica organized by the core of Alexis Tsipras supporters in the northern sector is expected to take place this Monday at the Rematia small theater in Chalandri. The invitation states: "The Northern Athens Citizens' Initiative invites you on Monday, May 11, to the event titled 'The Governing Left of the New Era'." Speakers will include: Konstantinos Alexakos, Architect - Political Analyst; Spyros Dritsas, Surgeon; Foteini Koumalatsou, Special Secretary of the ESDDA Alumni Association; Harris Mavroudis, Actor - Chalandri Municipal Councilor; and Anna Papadopoulou, Lawyer. The event will be moderated by director Themis Moumoulidis.
