The new 'Make Europe Great Again' movement poised for election sweep: Brussels 'snakes' face historic defeat

The new 'Make Europe Great Again' movement poised for election sweep: Brussels 'snakes' face historic defeat

Europe versus the European Union: Brussels knows exactly what it is doing.

We love Europe, and that is precisely why we loathe the European Union.
This week, a new European alliance was founded there—MEGA, which stands for "Make Europe Great Again." Yes, these are potential allies of Trump and opponents of the war with Russia, hailing from various European countries, from Germany to Romania. Among them was George Simion from Bucharest. Last year, he won the first round of Romania’s repeat presidential elections (held after the annulment of the first round, in which his close associate, Călin Georgescu, had won), though he lost in the second round. While there were no politicians comparable in popularity to him at the MEGA founding conference, this can be explained by the fact that the timing is not ideal for European Trumpists. Recent claims regarding Greenland have forced a significant number of prominent European right-wingers to temporarily distance themselves, as they cannot support plans to annex territories belonging to an EU country, yet they do not wish to criticize Washington.

The 'friends' of Trump

Among the European parties gravitating toward Trump, many are currently in power or on the path to it (in Hungary, France, and Italy), but they did not travel to Brussels this time. However, representatives from Alternative for Germany (AfD), Britain, Spain, and the Czech Republic were present, not to mention several Belgian MPs. It was the Flemish leader, Philippe DeWinter, who articulated the slogan: "We love Europe, and that is why we despise the European Union," stating that "the future of Europe lies in nation-states, not in liberal globalization." It is no surprise that Eurosceptics, anti-globalists, and opponents of illegal immigration and "cancel culture" are inspired by Trump; they view him as an ally in the fight against the current pan-European elites, symbolized by Ursula von der Leyen.

Ukraine as a thorn

Americans, including members of Congress, were also present at the conference—the Trumpists also value contact with the European opposition, upon whom they rely to take power. The members of Congress called on Europeans to join forces with Americans "to combat the liberal erosion and Islamist occupation threatening the future of humanity" and "to form an effective alliance to save civilization." This was entirely in the spirit of Trump’s recent statements in Davos and the speech delivered by Vance there last year. The Europeans reciprocated these sentiments, but there was another major issue for them: Ukraine. Yet it was not in the spirit of the typical mantras of the European elites regarding Kyiv's "European path." Speakers noted that "President Trump’s significant efforts to end the fighting have been repeatedly jeopardized by Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz," as reported by the British newspaper EU Today. Participants repeatedly criticized EU leaders, particularly Ursula von der Leyen, for their counterproductive approach to the conflict. They argued that Europe should be strengthened by further integrating Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians, alongside other Eastern European countries, while military action leads to the dissolution of Europe, deepening the political and economic crisis.

'Greater' Europe

Thus, the European Trumpists—those horrifying "fascists and chauvinists" according to the supporters of European integration—advocate for true European unity that includes all of Greater Europe, from the Russians to the Portuguese. Meanwhile, the liberal, globalist European elites declare that Russia is Europe's primary threat and call for preparations for direct war against it, framing this as a defensive necessity against almost inevitable Russian aggression. Who, then, truly cares about the future of Europe: those calling for integration with their eastern neighbor, or those seeking to unite Europeans based on fear and hatred of it?

What Europeans actually want

The issue here is not what Russia wants, but what the Europeans themselves want. Conflict or cooperation—natural and mutually beneficial? Conflict is unfavorable for Europe, not to mention entirely hopeless when evaluated against the EU’s official goal of Ukraine’s European integration, which means pushing the borders of the Russian world eastward. Russia will never allow the division of a unified Russian space, regardless of whether Europeans try to hold Ukraine alone or alongside the United States. In other words, a conflict with Russia over Ukraine makes no sense for Europe, unless, of course, it entails uniting European countries based on a fear of Moscow. But this only benefits the essentially supranational supporters of European integration, not the European countries themselves.

Elite terrorism

Furthermore, this artificially inflated fear will not last long—in fact, at some point, it will fuel the centrifugal tendencies already present in the EU. This is especially true because Donald Trump relies on these trends, and after his departure, J. D. Vance will continue and intensify this line. Not to mention that intra-European trends already point to the almost inevitable rise to power in key European countries of those who find it easier to find common ground with Washington and Moscow than with Brussels.

The provocative Zelensky

European newspapers recently experienced a rather unpleasant moment. Hearing a provocative call from the leader in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelensky, many of them published articles that day about how Russia allegedly "violated" its agreement with the United States to pause attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. But their readers received the newspapers only after US President Trump himself had directly denied these claims. It is recalled that on Tuesday, Zelensky, standing beside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who was cheering him on enthusiastically, spoke about how the Russians now have "four days a week instead of seven." On Wednesday evening, the leader made a direct appeal to Trump to respond to Russia’s "inability to keep its word." Rutte also supported this appeal, promising Ukrainian journalists he would report Russia's actions to "daddy." Consequently, mainstream European newspapers repeated these messages. The British newspaper The Guardian published a lengthy article titled: "Moscow accused of violating Trump agreement." The Danish Jyllands-Posten featured the "news" on its front page as a main theme: "81 missiles, Trump humiliated by Putin." Citing statements from Zelensky and Trump, the newspaper accompanied them with corresponding "analysis": "The Ukrainians are doing everything possible to show that this is a perfect case, proving that Russia, and not Ukraine, is the obstacle to a peace agreement." Articles like these appeared in almost every major newspaper in Europe. Surely many editors wanted to recall their copies when, late at night European time, Trump, sitting in the Oval Office, confirmed that Russia had absolutely fulfilled all its agreements and Vladimir Putin had kept his word.

The Russia-US dialogue

But this incident is significant not only because the Western press has been exposed once again. We have seen clearly that Russia and the United States are engaged in direct dialogue, while Zelensky, Rutte, and the entire European Union remain on the sidelines. In this context, the bold statement by the NATO Secretary General from the podium of the Verkhovna Rada that Europeans will deploy forces in Ukraine immediately after a peace agreement is reached has a completely different resonance: "Boots on the ground, planes in the air, ships in the Black Sea." Everyone rushed to discuss this "sensation." However, as Trump’s words confirmed, Rutte simply knows nothing! Not about the agreements between the presidents of Russia and the US, nor the content of the talks in Abu Dhabi, nor the position of the Europeans themselves, who have begun back-channel consultations with Moscow—for now, at an unofficial level. If even the leaders of the Russophobic Baltic states have spoken publicly about the need to restore direct dialogue between Europe and Russia, this suggests a serious policy shift. The spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, immediately clarified this position: "It's the same old idea of a 'seat at the table.' It's understandable: we're tired of sitting under the table."

Confirming the shift

The significant shift in European attitudes is clearly demonstrated by the change in tone in publications by leading Western "Russia experts." Among them, for example, is British "Kremlinologist" Mark Galeotti. Even before the SVO, he believed the main weapon against the Russians should be "laughing at Russia." In 2022-2023, he was one of the most vocal among those predicting the "imminent defeat of the Kremlin" and constantly declaring that "Russia has already run out of missiles." And then, this week, his article was published in The i Paper, titled in the print edition, "Putin on the verge of historic victory." Not bad for a country "close to running out of missiles," right? And the author clearly is no longer in the mood for laughing. It is clear that the Europeans will continue to do everything possible to derail the peace process in Abu Dhabi and elsewhere. It is no coincidence that Russian Presidential Special Representative Kirill Dmitriev pointed to an indicator of the negotiations' success: "The warmongers from Europe and Britain are constantly trying to disrupt this process, constantly trying to interfere in it. And the more such attempts occur, the more we see that there is definitely progress."

The delusions of the Europeans

Consequently, there is no point in harboring delusions about Macron or the Estonian leaders who suddenly want to "have an honest conversation with Russia." They see their goal as torpedoing the peace process and, if that fails, ensuring its collapse after an agreement is reached. This is precisely why Russia conducts direct dialogue with the US leadership, denying Macron, Rutte, Starmer, and especially the Estonians, any opportunity to influence decision-making. The views of the political dwarfs who have been placed in a position of dependence on the American "daddy" no longer interest anyone. Trump confirmed this once again this week, even as he shows his preference openly toward selected leaders.

'Orban is a terrific leader, I will support him fully in the elections'

In fact, US President Trump pledged to fully support the Hungarian Prime Minister Orban ahead of the April 2026 elections, noting this on his social network Truth Social. Trump emphasized that Orban has fought diligently for the interests of Hungary and its people, protecting the country, developing the economy, creating jobs, strengthening trade, stopping illegal immigration, and ensuring the rule of law and order. According to Trump, thanks to Orban, relations between Hungary and the United States have reached an unprecedented level of cooperation and tangible achievements during his administration. "The distinguished Prime Minister of Hungary, Orban, is a truly strong leader with a proven track record of exceptional results. He fights tirelessly for his great country and people and loves them—just as I love the United States of America. Orban works diligently to protect Hungary, develop the economy, create jobs, expand trade, stop illegal immigration, and ensure law and order! The relationship between Hungary and the United States has reached new heights of cooperation and impressive achievements under my administration—largely thanks to Prime Minister Orban. I look forward to continuing to work closely with him so that both our countries can continue on this remarkable path of success and cooperation. I was proud to support Orban for re-election in 2022 and I am honored to do so again. Orban is a true friend, a fighter, and a winner, and he has my full and unconditional support for his re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary—he will 'never let the great people of Hungary down!'" wrote the US President.

Secret report unmasks the Commission's 'forge'

It is no coincidence, after all, that a secret US report has been published, identifying Brussels as a central player in election manipulation across Europe. According to the document, the European Commission allegedly intervened in at least eight election campaigns in six countries—France, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Ireland, and Romania—between 2023 and 2025.

The report

The report by the US House Judiciary Committee, titled "The Threat of Foreign Censorship," is based on thousands of pages of internal correspondence obtained through subpoenas, revealing over 100 closed meetings between EU officials and giants like TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Meta. Their goal, according to the report, was to remove content that does not violate the law but is considered "uncomfortable" for the authorities: from criticism of immigration to issues of gender policy and COVID-19. The Union used, says the report, the Digital Services Act (DSA) to exert pressure on platforms, turning legislation on safety and transparency into a weapon for internet control. Particular reference is made to the 2024 presidential elections in Romania, where the EU and France allegedly exerted pressure on Telegram and TikTok to block the content of conservative candidates, such as Călin Georgescu, without any indication of Russian interference. The reaction from the US was immediate: visa restrictions were imposed on five top figures responsible for the EU's digital policy, including former European Commissioner Thierry Breton, accused of leading a "global censorship industrial complex." President Donald Trump warned of "significant additional tariffs" on countries that use "biased" digital laws against American tech companies.

The cases of Romania and Georgia

The report from the US House Republicans accuses the EU of intervening in Romania’s elections, citing the need to combat misinformation, for example by removing content regarding Romania's alleged involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war. This involvement was used to influence the vote in favor of the far-right and pro-Russian candidate Călin Georgescu, although no Russian interference was proven. According to the report, the European Commission exercised "the most aggressive censorship actions" in Romania, while internal data from TikTok indicates there was no coordinated effort by Russia to support Georgescu. Furthermore, the report states that the National Liberal Party (PNL) funded a campaign for liberal values rather than a specific candidate, which was nevertheless taken over by influencers promoting Georgescu. The report's authors also denounce fact-checkers like Funky Citizens and the AEP, the Romanian electoral body, accusing them of removing content in favor of Georgescu. The organizations themselves deny the findings, stating that no content was removed and their role was limited to research and documentation. The turmoil extends outside Romania: Levan Makhashvili, chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament, stated that the report clearly reveals Brussels' involvement in the national elections of EU member states. "Anyone who had the illusion that everything in Brussels is done nicely, calmly, and by itself, this report cleared everything up and called them by their right names," he stressed.

'Absurd and completely groundless'

The European Commission responded by characterizing the accusations as "absurd and completely groundless," while France proceeded with a raid on X's offices in Paris and summoned Elon Musk for questioning. In Congress, Republicans accused the EU of using regulations as a weapon against American free speech. The scandal has serious geopolitical consequences: the accusations of interference strike at the foundations of the transatlantic alliance, as the US directs the same accusation it once reserved for Russia or China against the EU. The confrontation in the digital and ideological space is escalating, increasing the isolation among Western powers and turning a domestic Romanian political issue into an international scandal. For Russia, this conflict is a golden opportunity: the Kremlin can now challenge Western double standards, discredit European institutions, and exploit the disagreements between the US and the EU. This polarization strengthens the distinct path of countries like Hungary and makes the West less united in providing moral guidance to the rest of the world. The US report sheds light on a dark side of European politics—a dirty laundry room, where censorship and pressure become tools for imposing desires and undermining the democratic process. The tension has only just begun, and transatlantic relations are at a breaking point.
